Logos

The Bible tells us that “in the beginning … the earth was formless and void … Then God said let there be light, and there was light”. In the gospel of John, the second person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, is called the Word or Logos of God and “all things were created through Him.” Even more, He is the image of the invisible God … by Him all things were created …” and “what may be known about God, His invisible attributes and divine nature may be understood through what has been made.” This work of art shows the creative power, the Logos that has ordered and created all things, that is, Jesus, in the center. The light radiating out from Him represents his creative power and the equations embedded above Him on either side express our current understanding of the created universe, how all created matter derives from the action of the Logos. The human mind is the ever-changing pattern of electromagnetic fields maintained by the neurons in the brain. We see in the background of this image, embedded in the stars and galaxies of the universe, a representation of the brain and neurons, representing our connectedness with the created universe and with the Logos of God, who created all of us as well. We may ask how the human soul is connected to the mind, which interacts in subtle ways with the universal electromagnetic field. This artwork is a visual presentation of all these mysteries and our current understanding of them, which points us to the Creator of all things, the Logos, through which His divine nature may be known.
